The claim about a person

Does Strategy’s buying move the Bitcoin price?

Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) has bought Bitcoin in billion-dollar tranches and announces each purchase publicly, which is regularly credited with — or blamed for — price moves.

This is one of the few names where the question is legitimate rather than rhetorical: the purchases are real, large, and disclosed to the SEC, so anyone can check dates and sizes. What a single buyer cannot do is set the direction of a market for a quarter. The figures below put the same window against the money measure — that is the comparison the headlines leave out.

The window, measured

2026-01-01 to 2026-08-03 · 214 days. The current year to date, so a reader can compare the same window against the money measure rather than against a headline.

The honest answer

In the ninety days before this window the money measure was close to flat (−1.5 %). On this occasion the event has a case: the move was not already under way.

The threshold used above is two per cent over ninety days, stated here so you can hold it against us. News explains a day. It rarely explains a quarter — and the figures above are the whole of the argument, computed from the same sources the public chart draws.

Stage Strategy GmbH publishes market data. This page reports what a stated window measured; it is not financial advice, not a recommendation, and makes no claim about what any price will do next. Nothing here asserts that any named person or event caused a price move — the question is posed because it is asked, and answered with figures anyone can check.
